Portfolio Description

“We ran up to the top. I just grabbed one coat, not even thinking. I never thought we were going to be leaving the ship or anything.” – Libby Wright, Recalling the Sinking of the Carson.

“The things he gave me, like an old .22, I will always treasure. But they are just reminders of a wonderful friend. He represented to me a link with the past of a happier, gentler time.” – George Way, The Last of the Height of Land Trappers.

“My father (Alfonzo “Uncle Funzo” Learning) was working down Dove Brook at logs or something. He come home every weekend with a little bag, 20 pound flour on a stick on his back. That’s all he had, nothing else. We had to kill partridges and catch rabbits, had to cut our own wood and everything. Trappers use to go right across by our door to go in country trapping. When they come out from trapping, they’d always drop off whatever they had left to our place. When they had some bread, pork, sugar and stuff like that, you know. Wonderful friends them times. But that’s that anyways.” – Robert Learning, Working to Make a Living.
